What is Improved Cook Stove (ICS)?
Cook stoves are commonly called “improved” if they are more efficient, emit less emissions or are safer than the traditional cook stoves or three-stone-fires.
Characteristics of ICS-
It reduces the overall income being spent in purchasing firewood and the burden of labor on women in sourcing it.
It generally burn biomass more efficiently than traditional stoves and open fires
Adopting this technology reduces the use of firewood, lowers carbon emissions, and expels the toxic fumes outside the users’ homes. This decreases household air pollution (HAP) dramatically. HAP is a leading cause of many heart and lung diseases in rural communities
As less firewood will be used, deforestation will be reduced.
